Hupskadee gets silver

Posted in rails by elisehuard on May 12, 2009

As a team of 4 (Hendrik Dacquin, Patrick Debois, Wio D’Hespeels and me) we decided to participate to the INCA-Awards. The contest was announced about a month before deadline, so we delivered an application, Hupskadee, in 3 hectic weeks, developing like mad in the evenings and the weekends.

Basically, Hupskadee is a simple web application that allows a parent to set up a babysit request, Doodle style. The hupskadee can then be sent on to friends and family, or posted on Facebook. Responding is also made easy, as is tracking the overview of the answers.

Today, at iMinds, the winners were announced. And we got silver ! This basically means we’re in the top 5, since there are 4 silver winners. We were quite chuffed. And lots of people told us beforehand we should win (especially parents of young children, strangely), heart-warming in itself.

The gold winner is Twoddler, and honestly, I agree with the choice. Making a toy for toddlers that can twitter to the parent, and which a parent can activate remotely, is both creative and innovative. And well, the internet of things is very now.

Our team really worked well together, so we might attempt the adventure sometime soon. We’ll also apply some spit and polish to Hupskadee to make it totally seaworthy. But first we plan to spend part of our hard-won money on a good meal. Whee !

And very well deserved, I do like the idea of Twoddler very much but my vote still goes to Hupskadee for the flawless execution and for going further then a concept to deliver a working and highly usefull app that even non tech savy parents can use.

(But then again, I do am a parent of young children, so maybe slightly biased 🙂 )

    Congrats!
